We are a registered charity, not a public service. Our responders volunteer their time and most of their own vehicles. Donations, partner support and booked work cover the training, insurance and running costs behind every call out.

Who we are
Hampshire & Berkshire 4x4 Response is a registered charity built around trained volunteers with capable 4x4 vehicles, specialist equipment and strong local knowledge.
Every responder is DBS checked and First Aid trained, and holds specialist Traction Assistance training covering on-road and off-road recovery, winching and safe extraction.
Emergency response is our primary role. Local authorities, emergency services and partner agencies can request our support directly, and we can put trained crews and vehicles on the road at short notice.
We do not replace the emergency services. We add access, recovery and transport capability when ordinary vehicles cannot get through. Donations, partner support and booked work fund the training, insurance and running costs that keep crews ready.
Why support us
- We receive no government funding. Every pound comes from donations, partner support and the services we are booked to provide.
- Our responders provide their own 4x4 vehicles and often their own equipment. They give their time free.
- The charity pays for what the volunteers cannot: training, insurance, mileage, radios and vehicle running costs.
- We keep communities connected when roads, routes and access points become unusable, and we are ready to respond on demand.

- Booking us is a way of funding us. The money from a day at an event pays for the training and insurance behind a call-out in February.
What we do
Practical support where it matters most
Recovery, winching and traction assistance
We recover stuck and stranded vehicles, clear blocked routes and provide traction assistance on and off road. All recovery work is carried out by responders holding specialist Traction Assistance training.
Traffic, parking and marshalling
Marshals, vehicles and radios for events, road closures and incident scenes. We manage parking, control vehicle flow and keep access routes clear for emergency vehicles.
Crews, radios and coordination
We mobilise volunteers, vehicles and radio communications at short notice and work to the command structure of the agency in charge. Requests come to our volunteer coordination team and are tasked to available crews.
Public support
Support the work that keeps communities resilient.
We receive no government funding. Donations pay for insurance, training, equipment and mileage, so our volunteers can turn out safely when they are needed.
