Capabilities
What we can bring to an incident or a site
This is what a requesting organisation gets: trained volunteer crews, 4x4 vehicles carrying recovery equipment, radio communications and the training to use all of it safely. The same capability supports booked work, and that work helps fund our emergency response.
✦
Recovery and access
- Winching and traction assistance for stuck or stranded vehicles, on road and off road
- Extraction from mud, snow, flood water and soft ground
- Towing and repositioning of disabled vehicles to clear a route
- Access to sites and addresses ordinary vehicles cannot reach
✦
Traffic, parking and marshalling
- Marshals for car parks, event access and vehicle flow
- Route control and diversions around closures and incidents
- Keeping access routes clear for emergency vehicles
- Crowd movement support at events and public gatherings
✦
Communications and coordination
- Radio communications between our crews and the requesting organisation
- One point of contact for tasking and updates throughout an incident
- Deployment planning and task allocation as conditions change
- Crews that work to the command structure of the agency in charge
✦
Transport and logistics
- Transport for staff and volunteers to sites cut off by weather or closures
- Delivery of supplies, equipment and essential goods to affected areas
- Movement of people when normal routes are blocked or unsafe
- Load carrying and towing capacity for equipment
Training, safety and funding
Trained volunteers, funded by donations and booked work
- • All responders are DBS checked and First Aid trained.
- • Specialist Traction Assistance training covers off-road and on-road vehicle rescue, recovery and safe extraction.
- • Volunteer responders often provide their own vehicles and much of their specialist equipment.
- • Insurance, training, mileage payments and vehicle operating costs are funded through charity support and donations.
- • We do not receive government funding, so every contribution helps keep the service operational and ready.
- • Even a donation of £10 contributes towards the training and running costs needed to support our volunteers.
