Hampshire & Berkshire 4x4 Response

About us

We are a volunteer charity operating across Hampshire and Berkshire. Every responder is DBS checked and First Aid trained, and holds specialist Traction Assistance training for on-road and off-road recovery. Our crews provide access, recovery and transport support to communities, emergency services and partner agencies when ordinary vehicles cannot get through.

A local volunteer network

Our responders are local people who train for this work and turn out in their own 4x4 vehicles. They know the lanes, the flood points and the ground conditions across both counties. Every one of them is vetted and trained to work safely alongside professional crews.

We strengthen the emergency services, we do not replace them

We are tasked by the organisation in charge and work to their command structure. Typical requests are access to a cut-off address, recovery of a blocked route, transport for staff and supplies, or marshalling at an incident or an event.

Funded by support, not government grants

We receive no government funding. Responders provide their own vehicles and much of their specialist equipment, while the charity funds DBS checks, training, insurance, mileage and running costs. Donations, partner support and booked work cover that bill.
